About

The Calder Vale Recreation Ground Charity was established in 1964, when Mr T G Hill donated a piece of land situated on the northerly side of and fronting the road leading from Strickens Lane to Vale Terrace in Calder Vale, Barnacre with Bonds, to the Trustees of the newly formed charity. The land was to be used for sporting and recreational purposes. For many years it was used by the, now no longer existing, Calder Vale Cricket Club. When the cricket club ceased the recreation ground became a open space for the local community to use for activities such as football and other ball games, the village children's festivals, dog walking and exercising, picnics and so on.

In order to maintain and further develop the recreational facilities, to ensure inclusivity to all members of the community and enhance the opportunities for physical and mental well-being for all, the charity is aiming to raise funds through community events and initiatives. Examples of what we have achieved so far, with the help of volunteers, include regular maintenance of the grounds and the pavilion, fundraising events and donations through the Village Hall 'Bluebell Teas', the 'Village Big Breakfast', the selling of local photographic products and carol singing, amongst other activities.

The Recreation Ground Charity raises the funds each year for the insurance that covers the general use of the facilities. Any activity outside of the current general use, such as the use of fireworks by an individual or a professional is NOT covered and anyone wishing to carry out such activities MUST seek permission, a minimum of two weeks in advance and have their application approved prior to such activities taking place, with their own appropriate insurance cover. Please go to the 'Useful Forms' menu to complete and submit an application form and send it as an attachment to caldervalerecreationground@gmail.com

In order to raise the funds required to progress the development plans the charity is now registered with  Smile Amazon, Just Giving and PayPal and is also looking for additional funding opportunities through donations, grants and match-funding.

The Calder Vale Recreation Ground Charity sees the positive impact of the option of outdoor recreational activities in helping to improve the mental health and physical well-being of the community and aims to enhance the facilities of the recreation ground for residents and visitors alike, of all ages and abilities.
